Emergencies can happen when you least expect them, which is why it's important that you have an emergency warning system available to alert your employees and anyone else who needs to know in case an emergency situation should arise in your business. Unfortunately, different emergency warning systems may be needed for different types of businesses, and it isn't always easy to know what will best meet your company's needs. In order to make sure that you choose the emergency warning system that's right for your company and will be able to get the necessary information out to your employees quickly, consider the following points as criteria by which you can judge potential systems.
Size of Your Company
Depending upon the size of your company you may find that you need a larger or smaller emergency warning system than what you might be considering. Obviously a larger company will need to be able to provide relevant information to hundreds or possibly even thousands of employees, while sending different amounts of information to the various levels of management so that they can more effectively deal with the emergency. A smaller company, on the other hand, won't need nearly as sophisticated of an emergency warning system because it will have significantly fewer employees and a much smaller management pool who will be dealing with the situation. Systems which are designed for companies of any size could be ideal for both, but other systems may be designed with features specific to certain company sizes.
Types of Warnings Needed
The types of warnings that you want your emergency warning system to send can be a major consideration when comparing different systems to see which is the right one for your business. There should be two major things that you look at here: the reasons that the system will send warnings, and the way that it will go about sending those warnings. Based upon the system that you choose, you may be able to automatically send warnings about fires, major accidents, hostile situations, inclement weather, or a variety of other situations. These warnings may be sent via e-mail, as a recorded telephone message, as a message to a pager, or even as a text message to a cellular phone. Of course, you may not want your system to send warnings for all of those events or using all of those methods, so you should keep your preferences in mind when shopping for your emergency warning system.
Additional Features
A variety of different features may be available with different emergency warning systems, and you should consider them in order to make sure that you find the system that best meets your companies needs. You may be able to have the emergency warning system automatically contact the police, fire department, or other emergency services, or you might have it set up so that it will send follow-up messages to everyone who received a warning in order to give them more updated information or to let them know when the emergency situation has passed.
